Helping to provide a brighter future
With the winter fast approaching, are your staff members going to complain about cold working temperatures? It is not uncommon for working environments to become much colder as winter sets upon us and coupled with the devastation caused by snow that is sure to follow inevitable cold weathers, understanding your obligations as an employer is paramount to any successful business.
With only 58 per cent of African children enrolled in primary education, and up to 16 million orphaned by HIV/AIDS, the 16 volunteers took a 10 day trip to Uganda to help increase the quality of teaching at a school home to 380 children.
The ‘Jack Standard School’ project, part of Teams4u charity which aims is to make a difference in the lives of children around the world, saw the development of four new houses for teachers and the painting of the inside of one of its dormitories.
“This is just one small part of the overall mission,” explained Sarah Mansfield Client Relationship Manager for employment law and health and safety compliance firm, Bibby Consulting & Support. “There is much more work to do, but with the support from Bibby, we have already made a huge difference to the lives of both the teachers and children. Without good quality education, they will surely continue to live in poverty.”
Over the next four years, the Jack Standard School is aiming to have a complete makeover with new classrooms, dining hall, kitchen, dormitories and play area.
Continued Sarah: “This is a project very close to my heart and it was a truly rewarding and life changing experience. I’m planning to go back to the school next year to continue in our efforts in giving children a better education.”Sarah is a ‘Community Champion’ for Bibby Consulting & Support who is involved in the firm’s “Giving Something Back” programme. This reaches out to over 550 charities in the UK whereby employees can take part in fundraising activities to give something back to their communities. The Bibby Line Group matches pound for pound what its employees raise and so far this year have raised a staggering £321, 730, which is yet to be matched.
