The implementation date for the Equality Act 2010 is fast approaching yet not all employers are ready for the new changes set to be brought in, with some almost certainly not fully aware yet of what this latest legislation means for them and their organisations.

Are you one of these employers? If so, our free guide to readers will help ensure that you are able to appreciate the main effects of the Equality Act 2010 by reviewing our easy read guide.

The Equality Act 2010 will first be implemented on the 1st October 2010 which is now less than 2 weeks away. Do you currently have staff members who care for a disabled relative? If so, you will need to understand more about how the new provisions will protect those who are associated to relatives who have a disability.

How about medical questionnaires, do you have a process of using these as part of recruitment process? If so, this practice may be unlawful for you after 1st October 2010 and you could be fined up to £5,000 if you ask health questions.

Do you expect staff to keep their pay confidential? From October, you can no longer do this, and staff members are free to discuss their pay details. If you have staff members doing similar work but for different rates of pay, you may have substantial problems on the horizon once all staff can begin to discuss their pay rates.
